TRINITY CELEBRATES FIESTA Alumni to Pack River Parade |
||||||||||||
April 2008 What would a Fiesta celebration be without a party on the San Antonio River? The Trinity Alumni River Parade Party, the most fabulous event of the year for the San Antonio chapter, is a success before it happens. All 168 seats have been taken. The seats are reserved across from the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in a location close to the river level so the attendees can watch the floats approaching and returning. Bus transportation will be available from Trinity, and great food – including hot burritos, ice-cold beer, and margaritas – is sure to delight all Trinity Fiesta enthusiasts. Alumni to Hoist Tiger Balloon during Battle of Flowers Parade By Elizabeth Ford
Trinity will be representing this year’s Battle of Flowers parade theme of “Broadway...and all that Jazz” with the always popular Tiger balloon and an entry named “Tigers Rock.” It is the second year in a row for alumni to support a tiger balloon, and the third year for a tiger – with the University’s first entry in 2002 being a balloon to match our mascot. According to Mary Denny, associate director of University Communications, the Battle of Flowers Association usually does not allow the same balloon two years in a row, but the group yielded to Trinity since the tiger has such strong significance for the school. A total of 34 volunteers (mostly alumni) will walk the parade route – 2.6 miles in length – to pull the balloon. The event has grown so popular that the Alumni Relations Office actually has a waiting list for balloon volunteers. Stacey Lenderman, department of athletics, will delight kids of all ages as LeeRoy, Trinity’s mascot, and the Tiger Card Office will lend its golf cart to include in the entry.
