Move-In Day for the Class of 2013

By Russell Guerrero '83

August 2009 – It was hot and humid, but it’s summer in San Antonio, so what’s new about that? What really mattered was who else showed up on the Trinity University campus bright and early on the morning of Aug. 21 – Team Trinity. They were the helpers waiting with smiles, strong arms, even stronger backs, and occasionally a golf cart.

Move-in day for the Class of 2013 drew campus administrators, upper-class students, faculty members, and alumni to help make the transition from a parent’s vehicle to a college residence hall and four years of possibilities.

So who are those 650 first-year students who arrived at Trinity on Aug. 21? Here is a snapshot:

      • More than 38 percent are not from Texas.
      • They are from 37 states and 40 countries – 11 percent are international students.
      • More than 30 percent are minority.
      • In high school, 75 percent of them ranked in the top 20 percent of their graduating class and they had the highest recorded GPA in the history of Trinity, 3.55, unweighted, in academic solids.
