Distinguished Alumnus and Spirit of Trinity Awards Presented

Dr. Mark W. Kline ’79
 Erich Menger III ’66

The Great Hall of the Chapman Center was beautifully decorated on the evening of Feb. 8, for the Alumni Awards Dinner. Erich Menger III ’66 was honored with the Spirit of Trinity award while Dr. Mark W. Kline ’79 was named Distinguished Alumnus. The Spirit of Trinity Award is given to a loyal alumnus or alumna who embodies what it means to be a Trinitonian. The award recognizes exceptional service to the community or University. The Distinguished Alumnus Award is the highest award presented by the Trinity University Alumni Association. Candidates have distinguished themselves through personal or professional achievement.

Bob Blystone, professor of biology, introduced Dr. Kline while the Rev. Raymond Judd Jr., ’56, Trinity University Chaplain Emeritus, introduced Mr. Menger. Trinity President John R. Brazil awarded citations to the recipients, while association president Marshall Hess ’88 acted as master of ceremonies.

“It was wonderful visiting the Trinity campus and reacquainting with so many old friends and mentors,” Dr. Kline relayed.  “I was particularly thrilled and honored that Dr. Blystone was there to introduce the Distinguished Alumnus Award.  I have the deepest respect and affection for him and know that I owe him a huge debt of gratitude for guiding me through the most formative stages of my career development.”

Mr. Menger added, “I was overwhelmed and truly honored to see so many friends and professors.  It was great.”

More than 200 alumni, staff, friends, family, and guests turned out to see and hear the honorees.  Congratulations to both winners. To nominate someone for the 2009 awards, go to www.trinity.edu/departments/alumni_relations/alumni_awards.htm .
