Trinity to Enroll Record First-Year Class Trinity
University anticipates an entering class of around 680 first-year
students, the largest in the school's history.
Despite a year of uncertainty brought on by the tragic events of
Sept. 11 and a weak
economy, the University had an unprecedented response to its offers of
admissions. “We are most
pleased with the academic profile and geographic representation of our
incoming class,” said Chris Ellertson, Trinity’s dean of admissions
and financial aid. “In the wake of a lot of uncertainty this year, we
redoubled our recruitment efforts in markets outside Texas to maintain
the geographic and ethnic diversity of our student body.” The
result: Trinity experienced a 17 percent increase in applications, with
more than 3,100 students applying for a first-year opening.
The entering class will be more geographically diverse than in
previous years. Students
will attend from 40 states; the top 10 states (excluding Texas) by
enrolled students are New Mexico, California, Colorado, Oklahoma,
Kansas, Tennessee, Missouri, Arizona, Oregon, and New York.
In addition, 18 percent represent cultural or ethnic diversity.
The entering class also has a strong academic profile, with improved
course preparation and grades, and average SAT scores of 1282.
