New Trinity Program Gives International
Students Cultural Touchstones

Being a stranger in a strange land can lead to some anxious times for international students attending an American university.  An international student might have to deal with unexpected cultural differences while living on campus.  In addition, international students may get few opportunities to sample life outside of college.

Recently, Trinity’s international programs office received a grant to make a visiting student’s stay on campus more fulfilling.  The grant will fund the International Student Mentor and Host Family Program.  As the name implies, the program will match visiting students with a student mentor during their stay.  The mentors will be other international students with similar backgrounds who have spent more time at Trinity.  The program will also recruit San Antonio families who volunteer to open their homes to the visiting students. The international students can spend time with the host families to get a taste of American life.

The program will also fund other events for enriching the lives of international students. For example, one of the destinations planned is a visit to a Texas ranch.
