EDUCATION PROFESSOR OFFERS HELP
FOR HELPING KIDS REACH THEIR POTENTIAL

October 2001 - Whether talking about the terrorist attacks on the United States or discussing a weekly allowance, teachers and parents in today's world often need help guiding children through the challenges and joys of a youngster's early years. Karen A. Waldron, education professor at Trinity University, has written a book titled “Unleashing Kids’ Potential: What Parents, Grandparents, and Teachers Need to Know,” to provide timely tips to show adults how to have more fun with children and teen-agers, solve family and school problems, and develop a lifetime of open communication.

“It's tough to raise kids today,” Professor Waldron says. “This book is meant for the person walking down the street with kids who needs some help.” The book draws upon her 30 years of research and includes numerous case studies to provide practical approaches to problem solving.

In “Unleashing Kids’ Potential” Professor Waldron reaches out to nontraditional families, including stepfamilies and single-parent families, and those headed by one or more grandparents. “The key here is to have fun while raising your children without getting beat up in the process,” she says.
