Chad Spigel joined the Religion Department in 2008 as an Assistant Professor. He received a B.A. in English Literature with a minor in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies from Brandeis University, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Ancient Jewish History from Duke University. He also spent a year studying at the Rothberg International School at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His recently completed dissertation explores the role of ancient synagogue worship by calculating and analyzing the occupancies of synagogue buildings. Other interests include ancient synagogues in general, the ancient Jewish Diaspora, approaches to the study of Jews and Judaism, and the use of archaeology and the Bible(s) in popular media. |
