Summer Housing
Many participants in the summer research program opt to live in campus residence halls. In 2011, students will be housed in Isabel and Myrtle Halls.
Students who will be in the same room for spring and summer may leave their belongings in their room. However, all students MUST have a check-out appointment before leaving campus. Beds must be stripped and belongings stored neatly so that cleaning and repairs may take place between May 11 and 22.
Students who are working under the auspices of an externally-funded grant may be eligible for free housing. Limited additional housing is available at a rate of $123 per week.
Social and enrichment events will be planned throughout the summer. A schedule of these events will be posted to the program calendar.
Housing Reservations
Students wishing to reserve summer research prorgram housing must complete the online form by April 4. 2011.
Students may be housed in doubles or triples. Single rooms are not available.
If you do not select a room-mate, we will match you with another student. Room-mate requests will be honored only if they are mutual. We can not guarantee suite-mate requests, but will make every effort to match you with preferred students.
Residence Hall Move-in
Check-in for research students will take place on Sunday, May 22nd from 12 noon to 5:00 pm in Heidi Lounge. Students requiring special accommodations (e.g. for after-hours arrivals) should contact Residential Life well in advance to make arrangements to pick up keys.
For students arriving from other institutions, a campus map can be accessed on the campus tour website. If you are unfamiliar with Trinity residence halls, please consult the Residential Life FAQ page.
Residence Halls must be vacated by July 30.
Meals & Groceries
Trinity does not offer a summer meal plan. The Commons will be open from 8 AM to 2 PM Monday through Friday, except for the May 30 and July 4 holidays.
Each dorm room is equipped with a Microfridge unit (microwave, freezer, refrigerator). Additional microwaves and refrigerators are not permitted. Students should note that Isabel, Myrtle and Susanna Halls do not have kitchen facilities.
The Office of Academic Affairs will offer some limited assistance with transportation to local grocery stores, beginning on May 23. This service is available on a first-come-first-served basis. If you would like to sign up for a ride, please email Claudia Scholz.
Temporary Storage
Storage for student belongings will be available on the 1st floor of McLean Hall from May 5 to June 2 and from July 31 to the beginning of fall classes.
If you wish to make use of this space, please visit the Witt Center to have your ID card programmed to open the storage room door. Witt Center staff will also explain where the room is located.
Note that the storage space is only available to students actually living in the residence halls during summer and fall.
Trinity University is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items left in storage. Stored items should be clearly labeled. Air-tight containers are recommended as storage room conditions are somewhat humid.
Housekeeping
Student rooms will be cleaned every two weeks during the summer. The cleaning schedule will be posted on the bulletin board in the Witt Center when it becomes available.
Campus Parking
If you are leaving your car on campus between spring and summer sessions, Campus Security recommends parking your car in the Prassel garage. Please do NOT leave any valuables in your car.
Students bringing cars to campus will have to obtain a parking permit for a pro-rated fee. More information about parking is available on the Campus Safety website.
Local Transportation
VIA Metropolitan Transit operates several bus routes (7, 8, 509) near campus.
“Reduced Fare IDs” are available at the Coates Information Desk. Students with this ID are eligible to purchase a monthly unlimited-ride bus pass, called “Big Pass” at a discount. Individual fares are also discounted with this ID.
Safety and emergency information
Summer Resident Advisors for 2011 are Melanie Sweeney (Myrtle 235) and Gus Wilson (Isabel 132).
Students are advised that they may not work alone in labs after-hours. All students working after regular business hours must have a partner or mentor present.
Medical and other emergencies should be reported immediately to the office of Campus Safety
Students working on campus during the summer are asked to register their cellphone numbers on the TrinAlert system in order to receive emergency broadcasts.
Nurses are available Monday-friday 8AM - 5PM at Trinity's Health Services office. Students requiring a physician's care or laboratory tests should make off-campus arrangements. The following local clinics provide after-hours and walk-in services.
