Sociology and Anthropology are two disciplines dedicated to the study of human social life. Sociologists investigate general principles governing social organization and social behavior in a variety of settings including the family, religion, education, government, community, and the economy. Anthropology is the comparative study of hunter-gatherer, horticultural, agrarian, and industrial societies and their major institutions. Archaeology, one of the fields of anthropology covered in the Department, includes summer archaeological fieldwork in Mexico. Sociology and anthropology students learn how their individual lives shape and are shaped by the social contexts in which they live.
