:: Mission
Trinity University's Drama program provides theatrical education and experience for both
our students and the larger community within the context of the liberal arts and
sciences tradition. Central to that tradition is the ongoing investigation of what
it means to be human, including the realization of self-potential, the recognition
of responsibilities toward others, and the capability to make reasonable choices.
To these ends the Drama program attempts to provide both major and non-major
students with the opportunity to cultivate those skills and points of view
essential to a liberal arts and sciences experience. Within this framework
we are committed to the development of creative abilities in the performing
arts; artistic discipline in acting, directing, and design for theatre;
historical and analytical skills for understanding the history and contributions
of the theatrical arts and dramatic literature in a wide variety of cultural
contexts; communication and organizational abilities through theatrical productions
and respect for diversity in the collaborative process of making theatre. Students
should acquire the requisite intellectual background and essential artistic
experience necessary to pursue careers or further study in a wide range of human
endeavor and professional opportunity. Perhaps more importantly, we believe
that they will better achieve the potential richness of a humane future. |
