Trinity offers courses in the performance, directing, design, history, literature, and theory of the dramatic arts, and boasts some of the finest collegiate facilities for theatrical work in the country. Students learn in specialized classrooms designed solely for acting, design, and painting, and work in two well-equipped studios for the construction of scenery and costumes that are staffed by professionals. The university’s Ruth Taylor Fine Art Center features three spaces for theatrical productions, all with top-notch lighting and sound capabilities, including a state-of-the-art 450-seat proscenium theater.
Baker Duncan Scholarships in Theater:
The Department of Speech and Drama awards Baker Duncan Scholarships in Drama to members of the first year class. These prestigious scholarships, worth up to $10,000 each year for four years, are open to students planning on pursuing a major or minor in drama. Awards are made in the areas of acting, directing, design, theater management, and theater scholarship. To qualify applicants must:
- Submit an application which can be found online at: http://www.trinity.edu/departments/speech_and_drama/Drama/BDapplication.htm
- Submit a one-page essay describing their personal commitment to the art of theater
- Submit a resume of all theater credits including both performance and technical experience
- Submit a digital photo
- Schedule an interview with the faculty of the drama program on either President’s Day or during one of Trinity’s Saturday preview programs in January or March*. Technical theater, stage management, theater scholarship, directing and design candidates must bring representative materials to support their area/s of interest. Acting candidates must perform a 2-3 minute audition consisting of two short monologues, contrasting in style. We ask that students auditioning and presenting portfolios take their meeting with us very seriously and seek assistance from high school teachers or other theater professionals in developing their presentations.
