THE REAL INSPECTOR HOUND
A comedy about the theatre by Tom Stoppard, Directed by Kyle Gillette
As the mists rise around a spooky estate on the wild Scottish moors, Inspector Hound is on the trail of an escaped madman bent on revenge! Even the feuding theatre critics, Moon and Birdboot, are swept into the action of the play they're reviewing as the intrepid sleuth gets closer to the culprit and the dreadful secret of Muldoon Manor. Playwright Tom Stoppard dusts off every classic clue, dramatic cliché, and baffling red herring to create a hilarious spoof of Agatha Christie-like whodunits. It's a killer! Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
OCTOBER 2-4 and 7-10, 2009
URINETOWN, The Musical
Directed and Choreography by Stieren Guest Artist, Broadway and TV's Alan Muraoka, Musical Direction by James Worman
If you think we have problems with the Edwards Aquifer, just wait till you visit Urinetown. One of the most uproariously funny musicals in recent years. Urinetown is a wild saga of greed, corruption, romance, and revolution in a time when water is worth its weight in gold. A water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, brings a government ban on private toilets, while an evil monopoly -Urine Good Company- regulates and charges admission for one of our most basic needs! You'll love this broad satire of corporate skullduggery and American musical conventions. Produced by special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
NOVEMBER 13-15 and 18-21, 2009
BLOOD WEDDING
A drama by Federico Garcia Lorca, Directed by Susanna Morrow
In the searing heat of the Spanish summer, a bride prepares for her wedding - and so begins this poetic masterpiece based on a true story of love, lust and betrayal. The wedding celebration turns fatal when the bride abandons her new husband to escape with his sworn enemy, her childhood sweetheart. Inspired by Flamenco, this bilingual production uses song, dance, and poetry to conjure the emotional ferocity of blind love and long-held hate. Lorca evokes the spectacle of human passion through sophisticated symbolism and surrealist imagery, elevating this true love story to a stirring tragedy of fate.
FEBRUARY 19-21 and 24-27, 2010
HARLEQUIN: THE SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS
A Commedia dell'arte play by Carlo Goldoni, Directed by Roberto Prestigiacomo
Even a servant as clever as the wily Harlequin has to turn somersaults when he goes on a fool's errand of serving two different masters at the same time. One of the "masters" is a beautiful and adventurous lady in disguise and on the run from a forced marriage; the other is her handsome secret lover - who's trying to find her! Both ask the impossible of their trusted and much bused Harlequin, who has no ida about his masters' true identities. Plots, deception, intrigue - and laughs, of course - ensure a delightful new translation of this Goldoni classic, presented in the grand tradition of the Commedia dell'arte!
