National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) - an independent grant-making agency of the U.S. government dedicated to supporting research, education, preservation, and public programs in the humanities.

National Endowment for the Arts (ACLS) - mission is "the advancement of humanistic studies in all fields of learning in the humanities and the social sciences and the maintenance and strengthening of relations among the national societies devoted to such studies."

Council for International Exchange of Scholars and Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program - The traditional Fulbright Scholar Program sends 800 U.S. faculty and professionals abroad each year. Grantees lecture and conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields.

National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Stipends - provide individuals with an opportunity to pursue research in the humanities that contributes to scholarly knowledge or to the public's understanding of the humanities.  Successful applicants will receive an outright award of $5,000 for two consecutive months of full-time research and writing.

American Association of University Women (AAUW) Short-term and Summer Research Grants - supports aspiring scholars around the globe, teachers and activists in local communities, women at critical stages of their careers, and those pursuing professions where women are underrepresented.

American Philosophical Society - promotes useful knowledge by maintaining five major grant or fellowship programs in a wide range of fields.

Social Science Research Council Summer Fellowships - sponsors fellowship and grant programs on a wide range of topics, and across many different career stages. Most support goes to predissertation, dissertation, and postdoctoral fellowships, offered through annual competitions. Some programs support summer institutes and advanced research grants. Although most programs target the social sciences, many are also open to applicants from the humanities, the natural sciences, and relevant professional and practitioner communities.

NSF Research Opportunities Award

Newberry Library Short-term Fellowships - Fellowships at the Newberry Library provide assistance to researchers who wish to use our collections, but who cannot finance a visit on their own.

Huntington Library Fellowships - The Huntington will award to scholars over one hundred fellowships for the academic year 2004-2005. These fellowships derive from a variety of funding sources and have different terms. Recipients of all fellowships are expected to be in continuous residence at the Huntington and to participate in and make a contribution to its intellectual life.

Smithsonian Institute Office of Fellowships - Smithsonian Institution offers fellowships in fields that are actively pursued by the museums and research organizations of the Institution.

Virginia Foundation for the Humanities - The Fellowship Program sponsors exploration of subjects in history, culture, ethics, philosophy, religious studies, and other disciplines, as these illuminate topics and problems of current and abiding public import.
