2005 Health Behaviors Survey

Results are based on an anonymous survey of a random sample of 497 undergraduates administered in 29 randomly selected classes between January 31 and February11, 2005.


Alcohol

During fall semester 2004 . . .

Frequency and Quantity

61% drank only once or not at all during a typical week
62% averaged 0 to 5 drinks per week

Prevalence of Negative Consequences of Drinking
(all students / students who drank)

95% / 94% avoided getting intoxicated and being taken advantage of sexually

90% / 87% avoided getting intoxicated and having unsafe sex

88% / 84% never went to class under the influence of alcohol

86% / 82% avoided getting intoxicated and getting physically injured

78% / 72% did not get behind in their academic work because of drinking

69% / 60% did not drink and have a blackout              

66% / 55% never went to class with a hangover

53% / 43% never missed a class as a consequence of drinking


Tobacco

During fall semester 2004 . . .

70% never smoked tobacco


Other Drugs

During fall semester 2004 . . .

99% never used inhalants

99% never used opiates

98% never used ecstasy

97% never used sedatives

95% never used cocaine

95% never used stimulants

91% never used hallucinogens

81% never used marijuana (67%) or used less than once a month (14%)
