Question Dean Tuttle, Your last column was so full of questions that it had me questioning not only life at Trinity, but everything around me. And while I want to answer some of your questions myself, I feel that this is not the reason for your column so I will instead ask you a few questions about Trinity University. Why are there little clay squares dangling from some of the trees near Coates University Center? Answer Those squares are art. They were placed there by a student as part of an art project last year with the understanding that after the project was graded, the student would remove them. He or she must have received a really good grade and decided to leave them up as a donation. Did you know that if someone wants to give a gift to the University, it has to be approved? I think this is a good example of why. The grounds crew has bigger leaves to blow, so the square will probably remain until a rainy day. In the meantime, looking for a cheap holiday gift? Question Why does it small like maple syrup around 12:45 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays between Mars McLean and CLS, and like vanilla p the Murchison pathway at 8AM- or am I the only person to notice this occurrence? Answer Walk-in hours at Counseling Services are Monday through Friday from 3:00 to 4:30PM. Question Why do you drive to work when you live so close and you can run a marathon? And, where did you get the “Gone Running” sign that is in the window of your office? I want it! Answer I have started driving to work because I have to leave in the last afternoon to pick up my sons at high school. Having the car near the office saves me valuable time so I can serve you better. My wife gave me the sign in the window. She got it from a magazine like Oprah, Vanity Fair, or Trucker and Tattoos Digest. I’d like you to have it, since I know you are a runner too and because you said you want it. Question Do you still stand by your statement that Greeks have contributed ‘nothing but headaches’ to this campus? Answer We have lost four groups in three years for hazing or other rule violations. I did not make the decisions to break the rules nor did I have a role in determining responsibility or consequences. Nevertheless, I have dealt with lots of fall out (think calls from parents, alumni, neighbors, and students). I think any reasonable person could infer that an administrator such as me might experience some cranial pain and discomfort as a result, so I don’t see my comments as a stretch. I look forward to the entire Greek community realizing its potential in areas of service, academics and leadership as well as in fulfilling important social roles. I have a standing offer to all of the Greek organizations to meet with them to discuss ways to improve their chances for success. Question Are you ever afraid that you’re increasing loss of popularity with students is due to rigid and strict policies governing student life? Answer I had popularity? | ||
