Leadership Training Crashes the Party

The staff at Campus & Community Involvement (CCI) has put together a leadership conference slated for this Saturday and Sunday, on campus. The conference, using the movie theme Wedding Crashers, was developed by Student Life Intern Colleen Hughbanks. The publicity (shown above) features Ben Newhouse and Raphael Moffett, from CCI. This event is for designated student leaders and others and will feature sessions on leadership styles, public speaking, group accountability, event planning, risk management, meeting management and more. Students can still sign up by contacting Ankita Rakhe at Ankita.rakhe@trinity.edu by noon, September 9, 2009.

Special Events Your Student Should Consider

Distinguished Lecture
Former Pakistani President of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf, will be at trinity on September 17. Because tickets are expected to be in high demand, students are required to pick them up in advance between now and Friday at the Laurie Auditorium ticket office.

Career Services Corner with Brian Hirsch

Welcome (or Welcome Back)
It is a new school year and some of you are beginning the home stretch with your senior students and others are just beginning the marathon with your First Years.  Regardless of where their students are along the higher education timeline parents worry about the future.  That’s natural as is the changing level of urgency depending on what’s on the agenda for the moment.  There are times when making decisions about what to major in will be front and center, and other times when it doesn’t seem nearly as important as how to keep in contact with a student studying abroad.  Regardless, of what point students are on in their career journey there are services and staff that are here to help.

In upcoming issues of this newsletter I will talk about some of the specific resources and have some thoughts on career preparation.  But for today, please feel free to have students contact our office and we are happy to work with them.  They can contact us at careerservices@trinity.edu or 210-999-8321.

Student Health 101 - September Edition

The September Student Health 101 will soon be distributed to all students. The included companion piece for parents includes accompanying information about body acceptance and the Reflections: Body Image Program at Trinity.

Micro Mail

This section features e-mails that were sent to all students since the last TrinitE newsletter. Parents are invited to micro-manage their students into reading this important information. For past due items, they are offered simply for information. By policy, students are responsible for information sent to them through e-mail, which serves as an official Trinity University communication tool -- because all students are assigned accounts. (Click on each heading to read the full e-mail.)

Editor's Note: Wow! The e-mail volume to students has been unusually high, so it wouldn't be surprising if students missed some important information. In future issues this section should be significantly reduced.

The Difference

The difference between… The Trinity Parent and Family newsletter is a hard copy newsletter that is distributed to parents of new students in the summer. The TrintE Parent and Family electronic newsletter is sent to subscribers about every other week during the academic year. ParentTalk is an interactive list serve available to parents and family members. Participants must subscribe to this list, which allows parents to respond to posts submitted by others. It is a valuable list to utilize to pose questions about local services, parental dilemmas, general concerns, and inquiries.
