Subject: class marshal tip: accordion festival!

Hey 2013ers, academic grind cramping your mojo? Jumpstart your soul this weekend by dancing the day away at the 9th annual INTERNATIONAL ACCORDION FESTIVAL!! If you associate accordions with corny tuba-infused waltzes played badly by old men wearing lederhosen, think again. Nothing against polka, especially in October, but this is a different deal.

As the poet & Trinity U alumna Naomi Shihab Nye put it, "The International Accordion Festival, most fabulous annual music event in San Antonio, dazzles the ear and soul with great musicians from all over the globe. It's a rich mingling of cultures, tempos, languages -- threaded together with high energy and relaxing fun. The fact that such a terrific weekend can be FREE to the public is miraculous. Plan to spend the entire weekend drifting happily from stage to stage, or at least, a whole day. Recommended for all ages and moods!!"

For more info on the event & bands, check out: http://www.internationalaccordionfestival.org/schedule.html

Time: Friday night 7pm start ($10 cover charge), Saturday & Sunday 1-10pm (free)

Location: La Villita Village (pronounced "La VEE EE ta") in downtown SA. It's on Alamo St 3 or 4 blocks south of the Alamo (west of Hemisfair plaza).  Ever noticed the little amphitheater that the Riverwalk bisects?—this is part of La Villita.

Transportation: To maximize your experience, I recommend biking (3-mile ride) or taking the #8 Via Metro bus from campus. The most convenient campus bus stop is on Stadium Dr just east of Northrup Hall. $1.10 each way. Bus will follow St. Mary's St south to downtown. The #8 route ends downtown not far from the festival (you'll know when route ends because everyone will get off the bus). For #8 bus schedule, check out http://www.viainfo.net/
