The Division of Student Affairs is pleased to invite nominations for awards recognizing student excellence and leadership at Trinity University. These awards will be announced at the Student Affairs Awards Reception on Friday, March 27, 2009 during Spring Family Weekend.
We are accepting nominations for the following awards:
The Presidential Awards of Excellence
These awards will be presented to senior students whose contributions to the Trinity University community have been continuous, wide reaching, and of the highest caliber. These honorees are an inspiration to others as they have given unselfishly of their time and talent in order to make the University and the wider community a better place for all of us to live, work, and study.
The Trinity Awards of Student Achievement
These awards will be given to seniors who have integrated and excelled at academics and student life. The awards will recognize individual students who have earned a 3.5 or better grade point average and made a significant contribution in leadership, voluntarism, athletics, or the arts.
The Coleen Grissom Award for Outstanding Contributions to Student Life
Dr. Coleen Grissom, currently a professor of English, ended her student personnel career as vice president in the spring of 2000. To many former students and their families, Coleen Grissom is synonymous with Trinity University. Dr. Grissom is legendary not only for her engaging wit, but for the personal care and attention she offered students, parents, and colleagues and for her leadership to the Student Affairs division, the University, and community. Through her work, energy, and charismatic style, Coleen Grissom has molded generations of students and significantly shaped the identity of Trinity University. The Coleen Grissom Award, appropriately, honors noteworthy accomplishment in improving student life at Trinity University.
The Thurman Adkins Award for Leadership
Thurman Adkins was a member of the division of Student Affairs at Trinity University for over 30 years and is most closely identified with the University Center, Student Court, and the Association of Student Representatives. Educated in history and law, Dr. Adkins advised student leaders with great respect, encouragement, and wisdom. The Thurman Adkins Award for Leadership honors outstanding achievement in initiating a new program, service, or major event that enhances the undergraduate student experience.
Nominations must be received in the Dean of Students office – Northrup Hall 118
or Campus Box #40 – no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6. Nominations
must include the name, address, and phone number of the nominee and a letter of
nomination explaining why the nominee is deserving of the award for which he/she
is being nominated. A copy of the nominee’s résumé would be helpful. The name,
address, and phone number of the nominator must also be included.

must be received by 5:00 p.m. on
Friday, March 6.
