Subject: John Brazil Announces Planned Retirement
George C. Hixon, chairman of Trinity University’s Board of Trustees, announced that Dr. John R. Brazil will retire as president of the University in January 2010. The announcement came at the conclusion of today’s regularly scheduled board meeting.
Dr. Brazil became Trinity’s 17th president in June 1999. His leadership has brought about a number of initiatives that have built on the University’s considerable strengths and accomplishments, including an historic $200 million capital campaign. Dream. Inspire. Achieve. The Campaign for Trinity University, nearing its conclusion with $191.6 million in gifts and pledges to date, will sustain Trinity’s future and ensure access to the nation’s best and brightest students.
The University expects to successfully complete the Campaign this year. Mr. Hixon said the president’s planned retirement will not have any impact on the Campaign and Dr. Brazil will continue to provide leadership for this important University fund raising initiative. “His dedicated leadership and commitment to the University’s mission have kept Trinity University in the front ranks of America’s finest colleges and universities. Trinity University has thrived for the past 10 years under John Brazil’s leadership and he will be greatly missed,” he said.
During today’s meeting, the Board voted unanimously to award Dr. Brazil the Distinguished Service Award, Trinity’s most prestigious honor, to recognize his significant contributions to the excellence of the University.
A presidential search committee will soon be appointed by Mr. Hixon that will be responsive to all of the University’s constituents. Trinity Trustee J. R. Hurd will chair the search committee.
