Subject: Expositor -- call for submissions

Dear Trinity Students,

As the 2008-2009 academic year moves toward a close, we hope that you will take a moment to dust off the good essays that you have written – or to polish up the good essays that you are writing now – and submit them to The Expositor, Trinity’s annually published journal of undergraduate non-fiction prose.  The 2009 issue of The Expositor will be published late in the spring semester.

In addition to academic argument, The Expositor publishes creative non-fiction.  Recent issues have included provocative essays on such topics as the politics of Shakespeare’s history plays, problems with the electoral college, and the relationship between Tibet and the People’s Republic of China.  Submissions should be between eight and fifteen pages in length and should use a consistent form of documentation (if documentation is necessary).

We are offering prizes of $150 apiece for the best essay representing each of the university’s three traditional divisions: the humanities (including the arts), the social sciences, and the natural sciences (including math and engineering).  All submissions will be judged anonymously be faculty in the English Department.

The deadline for submission is March 16, 2009.  Submit two copies of your essay (with your name and address on a separate cover sheet) to the English Department office, located on the third floor of Northrup Hall.

To attend a liberal arts college is to pursue a life of the mind, and publishing in The Expositor is an excellent way to share your thoughtful perspective with the Trinity community.  Get inspired by taking a look at previous issues of The Expositor, which are available, free of charge, in the English Department office.

We look forward to receiving your submissions.

Sincerely,

The Expositor Committee

Larry Kutchen, Andrew Porter, and Betsy Tontiplaphol
