Subject: FW: Petition for Release of Residency Requirement
Dear Sophomore Student,
Because being a residential campus is central to the mission of Trinity University, all unmarried undergraduate students are required to live on campus for three years (six fall and spring semesters). Considering that we were not overcrowded in the Fall 2008 semester and that there are currently over 75 vacancies in the upperclass area for the Spring 2009 semester, only extreme circumstances will be considered for the release of the residency requirement. Students who will be juniors beginning the Fall 2009 semester – and who feel that their circumstances warrant moving off campus – must complete and submit a petition form by 5:00 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2009, as outlined in the Board and Residential Agreement.
Generally students who are released from the residency requirement are those who demonstrate circumstances that are unique and exceptional to them. Reasons such as allergies, cost, noise, unhappiness with the food, and a desire for privacy can be shared by any number of students and are not considered unique.
In the event it is necessary to release additional students, only those whose spring applications were denied will be considered.
For your convenience, the petition form is attached or may be picked up at the Witt Reception Center. Please note that if you are asking for a release for medical purposes, you will be required to submit that documentation by the March 6 deadline as well. You should start this process soon, as only completed petitions received by March 6 will be considered. (Please note this is the Friday before Spring Break.) Late petitions will not be accepted.
It is important that you understand that moving off campus may affect your financial aid. Please consult with your financial aid advisor prior to completing a petition to live off campus.
