Dear Senior:

On behalf of the Career Services staff, Twyla Hough, Maranda Larsen, Samantha Jones, and myself: Congratulations!  If you are graduating on Saturday, you made it; if you are graduating in May you can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

As you prepare for the next steps in your personal and work life I want to provide some information that may be helpful.  First, in spite of a poor economy there are opportunities for new college graduates.  Bear in mind however, that challenging times do require a higher level of proactivity and planning.  I would suggest that you begin to think not only of your primary post-graduation goal but also of alternative routes to eventually help you to achieve that goal.

Many new graduates and students are unaware of the services available to them for assisting in career planning.  My office will be open until noon on December 24 and we will reopen on January 5.  Services are available for both new and upcoming graduates.

During the first week in January there will be several opportunities for students and graduates to network through the Making Connections programs.  Please check TigerJobs for the locations, dates, and times of these events.  I STRONGLY recommend that you consider taking advantage of the many alumni who want to assist you to reach your next career goal.  Start by checking out the Alumni Snapshots in TigerJobs.

TigerJobs is an excellent resource for searching jobs posted especially for TU students and graduates and there are numerous other resources that we have available through the Career Services website and in our office.  Please remember that at best, 20% of all hires made over the last 5 years were from internet job searches.  There is no substitute for personal networking.
