Information Session:
The first step to study abroad is going to an
information session. All students must attend to find out the general steps, guidelines
and expectations of them. When signing up for an information session, the
student will fill out an information card listing their student status, degree,
and basic information. Check with the office for the dates of the next
information sessions.
Research:
Once students have attended the information session, we suggest
that they research the different programs possibilities. The study abroad
office (Chapman 245) has a resource library to assist with this research. We
also encourage students to think about their goals for studying abroad in order
to find a program that meets their personal as well as academic needs.
Initial Appointment:
Students may come into the office at any time to make
an appointment with one of the two study abroad counselors. At the initial
appointment, students will bring a degree status worksheet as well as some idea
of where they would like to study and what classes they might take abroad. We
will look at the student’s personal, professional and academic goals in order
to help the student to find a program that fits all of their needs.
Follow-up appointments:
Students will schedule follow-up appointments with
a study abroad counselor as needed to narrow down their choices until they are
ready to apply for a study abroad program.
Application appointment:
Once students are ready to apply, we will give
them a copy of the application form and explain the application process. Students
must turn in their completed application to our office with all supplemental
information (payment, photos, essay, and recommendations). We will mail the
applications directly from the office and keep a copy in our files in case any
piece ever gets misplaced.
Forms Session:
Students must attend a forms session once they have decided
on a study abroad program. In this session, they will receive all the forms
they must fill out to leave Trinity University for a semester or summer. Nancy
leads this session and will explain how to fill out the forms, who must sign
them, and why they are important. One of the forms in this session is the
Course Approval Form, where students get classes pre-approved for their major,
minor, or common curriculum. Check with the International Programs office for the
dates of upcoming forms sessions.
Turn in Application and TU Forms:
Students must turn in their completed
application and forms to our office. The last day that we will accept
applications is October 25th (to study abroad in the spring) or March 25th (to
study abroad in the fall, full year or summer). The last day to turn in the
Trinity University forms to study abroad in the spring is October 31st, and
March 31st for the fall semester, full year and summer.
Pre-Departure Session:
Students must attend a pre-departure session before
they will be registered as study abroad students. This session is an opportunity
to talk with returned study abroad students as well as receive general
information and suggestions about living, studying and traveling abroad.
Receive Additional Materials:
Before a study abroad student leaves campus,
they will receive a copy of the Trinity University study abroad manual and copies
of most of the forms. They will also receive additional forms from their
program.
