Joseph P. Riley, Mayor of Charleston SC, received the 2007 Trinity Prize for Innovative Urban Governance on February 8, in Chapman Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.; he met with students in the afternoon, and following the award ceremony delivered a public address entitled "Creating a Livable City: Everyone's Responsibility." Laura Smith '07 attended the 2007 session of the Commission on Social Development of the United Nations Economic and Social Council. Sponsored by SustainUS, she and other "Agents of Change" will work with "government delegates, civil society representatives and youth from around the world on policy issues related to employment, youth, disabled persons, and aging." Her reflections on the experience appeared in the Trinitonian.

Jelynne Burley '88, Deputy City Manager for San Antonio, is teaching a planning class for the Urban Studies program this spring; this is an exciting prospect for our students, for they will be working with a distinguished policymaker and veteran planner for the city..
