What is TrinAlert?
TrinAlert is Trinity University's emergency text message system. TrinAlert will be used to rapidly and directly notify students, faculty and staff of critical campus emergencies.
Who can sign up for TrinAlert?
TrinAlert is designed for students, faculty and staff who will be affected directly by an emergency on the university campus. As such, current students, faculty and staff are eligible to sign up and receive alert messages.
Why should I sign up for TrinAlert?
How much does TrinAlert cost?
There is no charge to users for signing up for TrinAlert. However, standard text messaging rates and plans of your wireless carrier apply to messages received from Trinity University through the TrinAlert system. Registration with TrinAlert constitutes your acceptance of responsibility for any charges you may incur from your wireless carrier as a result. TrinAlert text messages will be sent only in the event of an emergency or urgent situation involving potential threat to safety and occasionally, for system tests.
Will my cell phone number be kept confidential?
Yes. TrinAlert cell phone numbers are not shared or sold to any other systems or services.
What do I need to sign up for TrinAlert?
All you need is a cell phone with text messaging capabilities enabled.
Please Note: All landlines, most Tracfones and some pay-as-you-go phones will not register on the system. This is a limitation of the phone providers.
How do I sign up for TrinAlert?
To register, you do need to have your cell phone handy. Complete the online registration form. You will be asked to create your own user name and password. (Note that this has no relationship to your Trinity Network user name and password.) Click the “Create Account” button, you will receive a text message that will include a 4-digit validation code. You must enter the validation code on the confirmation web page and hit the "Validate" button. You will then automatically be forwarded to the TrinAlert "Success" page. Your cell phone is now registered and your account has been created. Use the Returning Users Login to make changes to your account and update personal contact information at anytime.
What if I am not able to register?
For registration assistance, e-mail your mobile phone number and the name of your provider to support@e2Campus.com. Indicate you want to register in the Trinity University TrinAlert system.
What if I do not receive/enter the 4-digit validation code?
If you do not enter the 4-digit validation code, an account is created but you will not receive alerts. To receive alerts, you must login and re-validate your phone. If you do not receive the code, please contact support (see previous question).
How many TrinAlert text messages will I receive?
Text messages will be sent only to alert you to emergency situations in which there is an imminent threat to public safety. Occasionally, the university may also test the system by sending an announced test message. The exact number is difficult to predict, but there should be very few. You will receive messages within seconds of their transmission. If your cell phone is turned off when a text message is sent, you will receive it after you turn your cell phone on, but only if you do so within seven days from the original transmission.
What if I change my cell phone service provider?
When you change cell/mobile phone providers you should log into the TrinAlert system and update your information as soon as possible. After logging in, you can update your service provider and your phone number. When you change cell/mobile phone providers, but keep your existing mobile number it is considered "ported." Depending on the mobile phone provider, it may take up to 30 days for the system to be updated.
*Please be aware, even after updating your information in the TrinAlert system, during the "ported" time period, you may not receive alerts because the alerts are sent to the old mobile provider, which may not forward them. This is not controlled by the TrinAlert system, but is a result of the transition of your phone number from your old carrier to your new one.
How can I opt-out of TrinAlert?
You can opt-out (discontinue) at any time just as quickly and easily as you signed up. Login to your TrinAlert account for detailed instructions.
What will a TrinAlert message tell me?
In the event of an emergency, a short text message will state the type of threat and indicate suggested action. For instance, for the presence of a gunman on campus: “GUNMAN AT LARGE NEAR (LOCATION). SHELTER IN PLACE.” Because the messages must be brief, you may also be directed to go to the main university web site (www.trinity.edu) for more information.
