Ideas for Teachers and Parents
Our research suggests that the following 2 strategies may help children learn language.

1.  If you are trying to teach your child a new word, it may help to repeat that word over several days. Children may not benefit as much from repeating that word over and over on a single day.  On the other hand, children learn many words without explicit "teaching."  This strategy probably only has a short-term benefit.

2.  Children learning English may also benefit from hearing pronouns.  If you are able to, it may help to use pronouns in your speech.  Again, whether you follow this strategy or not will not influence your child's language learning in the long run.  Children learn language regardless of whether parents try to "teach" it to them.
