Use
American Fact Finder to
- build
custom tables of the particular U.S. Census data you want--for the geographic
area you specify.
- export
it into a spreadsheet file like Excel for subsequent analysis.

To use
American Fact Finder online:
- :
1) go to
www.census.gov
2) click on
Your Gateway to Census 2000
3) click on
American Fact Finder
4) click on Data Sets (in the center of the page, a little to the left)
5) scroll down and select the year and form you want (ex.:1990 Summary File
Tape 3) N.B.--Summary File 1 referes to the "short form," and Summary File 3
is the "long form." For more on Census forms and data, see

6) select Detailed tables
7) select geograhpy (ex.: County, then enter Texas, then All Counties, then
click Add, then Next).
8) Now, select the form questions that pertain to the area of inquiry
(N.B.--for educational attainment, there are up to six). Add those you want to
the table select list and click Show Result.
9) To download the results, click Print/Download, then select Download. The
default selection will be fine, then click OK and follow prompts.
