This chapter studies the journal literature of international economics from 1982 to 1997. This area of research has expanded considerably in absolute terms and relative to other fields of economics. During this period the number of articles in trade increased more than those in finance. Following the changes in the world economy, the sub-category of economic integration presented the fastest growth rate among all areas of trade and finance. As a result of the entry of new journals and authors, the leading journals and authors are producing a smaller share of total article output.
