Whitney
McCarthy
Whitney is a Biology major with a minor in Anthropology.
Her research interests are in the nutrient dynamics of decomposition
of the invasive shrub Juniperus ashei (“Cedar”)
in the Texas Hill Country. She is also identifying the wood-decay
fungal species present in decomposing mulch of J. ashei through
PCR and DNA sequencing methods. Her general interests include
all things biological, with a special emphasis on forensic
science and pathology, as well as physical anthropology, psychology,
writing, and literature. When she’s not immersed in
science, she is a dedicated percussionist with a great love
of many different types of music (everything from Bach to
Norah Jones and Led Zeppelin). She will likely be in medical
school starting fall 2008! |
