Musical Scores

Example: Doctor Doolittle

Analysis:  Another component of films that changes through time is the musical score.  For example, in the original Doctor Doolittle, the score consists of songs featuring the main character singing to light, mellow music produced by classical instrumentation, as opposed to the new version which features a more "modern sound" (which does not include the good doctor singing).  In this particular movie, the musical component of the film was changed from a primary means of supplying information and advancing the storyline to take on a more passive role of simply adding enjoyment to the film.

It stands to reason that people enjoy movies more when the movie incorporates the sound styles and music from that person's youth.  This incorporation of familiarity would therefore furthers one's sense of enjoyment of that movie, and we would expect different generations to gravitate towards the movie that had they type of music that generation was comfortable with.
