Meredith McGuire

 

Meredith McGuire (Ph.D., New School for Social Research) is Professor of Sociology and Anthropology at Trinity University, San Antonio, Texas.  She is past-President of both the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion and the Association for the Sociology of Religion.  She is an active member of other national and international associations in sociology and anthropology.  Her books include:

Health, Illness and the Social Body (4th edn., 2003)
Ritual Healing in Suburban America (1988)
Pentecostal Catholics (1982, winner of the SSSR Distinguished Book Award)
Personal Knowledge and Beyond: Reframing the Ethnography of Religion (2002) (co-edited with Jim Spickard and Shawn Landres)

Her recent articles address popular religion, religion and healing, gendered spiritualities, sociology and anthropology of the body, and Latino religion.
