Trinity University’s HHMI Program will cover the travel expenses for the first 18 institutions that submit abstracts for the conference. Other participants should be supported by funds from your institution. Most participants will be traveling by air to San Antonio. Please contact the TU-HHMI Program Assistant at hhmi@trinity.edu to arrange for flights to be covered by TU-HHMI. If more than one participant is attending the conference from your institution, we ask that you let us arrange the TU-HHMI flight first to insure that costs are kept as reasonable as possible. In your email to our Program Assistant, please include the following:
- Preferred departure airport (please include airport code, if known)
- Alternate departure airport (if applicable) (please include airport code, if known)
- Desired departure time on Thursday, October 9th
- Desired departure time on Saturday, October 11th (or other date, if extending your stay in San Antonio)
- Preferred carrier (if possible) (if you would like, please include your frequent flier number)
- Any explanatory notes or special requests
Travel arrangements will be made and communicated to travelers as quickly as possible to facilitate coordinating travel for other attendees from your institution. Trinity University will be arranging for van transportation to and from the airport. We will ask you for a cell phone number (where possible) to help coordinate vans. TU-HHMI will cover all ground transportation for all travelers, regardless of whether TU-HHMI purchased the airfare.
If you are traveling by car to San Antonio, TU-HHMI will reimburse you for mileage at the rate of $.448/mile. The reimbursement for travel by car must be less than the cost of airfare. Your registration package will include a travel reimbursement form for this purpose.

Trinity University has a convenient location in a residential area of San Antonio, just a few miles from the San Antonio International Airport and downtown San Antonio. Below are maps and written driving directions to help you find your way to, and around, campus.
Automobile rental is available at the airport. To obtain a cab from the airport, simply walk outside towards the cab area. Parking on campus is limited and strictly controlled. A campus map can be found here (pdf document). A San Antonio map can be obtained here (courtesy of MapQuest).
Directions to Trinity University
Trinity University is located on Hwy 281 between the San Antonio International Airport (Loop 410) and downtown San Antonio.
From the North on Hwy 281 (airport): Proceed to Interstate 281 South. Travel south on Hwy 281 for approximately 4 miles. Exit at Hildebrand Avenue and turn right at the light off the highway. Trinity University will be on your left at the intersection of Hildebrand Devine Road/Stadium Drive.
From the South on Hwy 281 (downtown/Riverwalk and Hotel Valencia):Travel north on Interstate 281 North/37 North. Exit at Hildebrand Avenue and turn left at the light off the highway. Trinity University will be on your left at the intersection of Hildebrand Devine Road/Stadium Drive.
From the North on I-35 (Austin):Travel south on Interstate 35 and exit 281 North/37 North. On Hwy 281 North, exit at Hildebrand Avenue and turn right at the light off the highway. Trinity University will be on your left at the intersection of Hildebrand Devine Road/Stadium Drive.
From the East on I-10 (Houston):Travel west on Interstate 10 and exit Interstate 281 North/37 North. On Hwy 281 North, exit at Hildebrand Avenue and turn right at the light off the highway. Trinity University will be on your left at the intersection of Hildebrand Devine Road/Stadium Drive.
From the West on I-10 (El Paso):Travel east on Interstate 10. Exit at Hildebrand Avenue (Exit 566B). Turn left on Hildebrand and travel approximately two miles. At the intersection of Hildebrand and Devine Road/Stadium Drive, Trinity will be located on your right. (If you reach Hwy 281, you have gone too far.)
