KRTU Digital Upgrades & Studio Renovation Project

HD Transmitter & Antenna

KRTU's old analogue transmitters
work in conjunction with the new HD transmitter.

The new Harris ZX-1000 HD transmitter with associated equipment and computer interface.  Installation began in February 2008 and was completed by late March.
Though not much discussed, the upgrade of KRTU's audio conditioning and processing equipment is responsible for the dramatic improvement in KRTU's audio fidelity, even on our analogue broadcast. This is KRTU's actual HD signal.  HD works by emitting a fractured digital signal on either side of the primary analogue radio frequency.  HD receivers then re-combine this signal and translate its digital signature into clear audio sound waves.

In addition to the new HD transmitter, KRTU added a new antenna for the HD system.  The
"4-bay" antenna along the edge is our primary analogue signal.
The "1-bay" antenna at the very top is dedicated to HD broadcast.
