Program Benefits
The centerpiece of the McNair Scholars Program is a one-on-one research
mentorship with a Trinity University professor. During the summers
following their sophomore and junior years, McNair Scholars can receive a
research stipend up to $2,800; a $600 board allowance; and free, on-campus
summer housing. Students work closely with a faculty mentor during this
ten-week summer research program and are eligible to continue their
faculty-sponsored work in a research internship during the academic year.
McNair Scholars receive an expenses-paid trip to an academic conference to
share the results of their research with the academic community.
McNair Scholars are also provided a wide array of academic career
counseling, GRE preparation, and academic cultural enrichment experiences.
These include a regular, one-credit hour seminar led by McNair Tutorial
faculty; expenses-paid travel to research universities throughout Texas; and local visits to significant educational, research, and cultural institutions.
