How
the Placement Service Works
BEFORE
THE CONFERENCE:
SMA Academic
Placement Services helps bring together individuals seeking academic positions
with colleges and universities looking for qualified applicants.
Prior to the conference,
schools with faculty openings complete the "Position
Announcement Form (.doc)" to announce a position that is currently
vacant or soon to be open. All forms received by the due date are compiled
into a packet called the "Pre-Conference Listing of Position Announcements."
The "Pre-Conference Listing of Position Announcements" will be mailed
on October 15, 2008 to individuals who order this listing of position vacancies.
Individuals seeking
new positions complete the "Job
Applicant Form (.doc)" to share information about themselves. All forms
received by the due date are compiled into a packet called "Pre-Conference
Listing of Job Applicants." The "Pre-Conference Listing of Job Applicants"
will be mailed on October 15, 2008 to colleges, universities, and other
organizations that order the listing of job applicants.
-
Please note that
SMA adheres to a strict pre-conference deadline of October 10, 2008. All
forms must be received by (NOT postmarked by) 5:00 EST on October 10, 2008
in order to be included in the Pre-Conference Listings. An
e-mail message will be sent to confirm receipt of forms and fees. Pre-Conference
listings will be mailed through first-class mail on the morning of October
15, 2008.
Once the schools
with faculty openings receive their listing of job applicants, they are
encouraged to contact applicants to set up interviews at the conference.
Likewise, job applicants are welcome to contact schools with faculty openings
in order to set up interviews at the conference.

| LISTINGS OF JOB
APPLICANTS AND POSITION VACANCIES |
We encourage you to order a personal copy
of the "Pre-conference Listing of Position Announcements" or the "Pre Conference
Listing of Job Applicants." These listings will be available for sale at
the Placement Services table and prior to the conference. Patrons of Placement
Services may view these binders at the table during the hours of operation
or sign out the binders for one-hour periods of time.
Message slips and envelopes will be provided
for all Placement Services patrons. You are encouraged to check in at the
Placement Services table throughout the conference to claim messages that
have accumulated for you. Any message slips which have not been claimed
at the conclusion of the conference will be mailed to you after the conference
is over. You are welcome to provide your hotel room number, cell phone
number, or other contact information at the Placement Services table in
order to help Placement Services patrons find one another.
SMA will make efforts to provide a comfortable
atmosphere for semi-private interviews in the Placement Services room.
If a more private location is desired, it is the responsibility of interviewer
to find a suitable location for the interview within the hotel. If interviewing
in a hotel room cannot be avoided, please ask every employer to have to
faculty members present, preferably one female and one male. We ask that
the door of the location where the interview is being conducted to be left
open at the time of the interview.
