Transportation

Visit the SWCAS Event website at the UT Center for East Asian Studies for more information:

http://www.utexas.edu/cola/centers/eastasia/conferences/SWCAS/index/

When you arrive in Austin, there are several options for getting to campus, and getting around town.  There are several ways to get from the airport to the campus.  UT Austin is located in central Austin, just north of the Capital building.

From the Airport:

Austin-Bergstrom Int'l airport (the only airport for the Austin area) is located on Hwy. 71 East, about 8 miles southeast of downtown.

§    Austin Cab: (512) 478-2222

§    SuperShuttle: Austin direct number: (512) 258-3826;

§    SuperShuttle National number: 1-800-BLUE VAN (258-3826)

§    AJE Transportation Charters (512) 423-8390

Taxi service to and from Austin-Bergstrom Int'l Airport runs about $20 with tip, perhaps slightly more if during peak traffic time.  Any taxi driver will know the University area fairly well.  The "West Mall" area is a popular part of the inner campus, and navigating the grounds from here is easy.  The West Mall is located on Guadalupe St., popularly known as "the Drag," between 21st and 23rd St.

If your flight arrives/ leaves later than 11 pm, the best transportation options are Super Shuttle or a taxi.  Super Shuttle can be found near the rental car counters at the airport.

You may also take a Capitol Metro bus.  The "Airport Flyer" bus picks up from the airport every 30 minutes daily, on the lower pick-up/drop-off deck of the airport.  Once on the lower deck, walk out the exit door and look right, across the first traffic lane for the bus stop.  Times are posted at the stop, and at http://www.capmetro.org/riding/current_schedules/MAPS/RT100_SB.PDF

Getting around once you're in Austin:

1:  Capital Metro buses

Getting around via Cap Metro buses is a cheap and easy travel option.  The Airport Flyer bus drops off on the South edge of campus, near the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum.  From here, you can walk North across MLK Blvd onto campus, near the Blanton Art Museum, just South of the PCL.  The 1L/1M bus route runs north-south through Austin and makes stops approximately every two blocks.  This is the most convenient method for traveling from the university area to the shops, restaurants, music venues, and bars downtown.  The Dillos (red, blue, orange, gold, silver) are free busses that run from campus to downtown, but they stop less frequently.  Most city busses stop running at around 11:00pm.

2: Taxi/Car Services

Do not count on being able to hail a taxi as Austin is not a large enough city to merit constant downtown taxi service.

How to Get to UT Austin by Car

The University of Texas at Austin is located in the heart of the city of Austin, just north of the downtown area.  Campus is just two miles from the State Capitol.  Main thoroughfares around campus include Guadalupe to the west, Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive (MLK) to the south, Red River to the east and 26th (Dean Keeton) to the north. Check out the main area map of the university.

Turn right on Brazos to park in the garage ($8/day).  This is the closest parking garage to UTC.  You can also take the 26th Street (Dean Keeton Street) exit heading west for North campus; campus will be on your left.

MoPac/Highway 1

Take Windsor Road exit heading east.  Turns into 24th Street, which dead-ends into Guadalupe Street, the western border of campus.

Highway 71
