LETTER FROM THE SWCAS PRESIDENT

Dear colleagues:

          I would like to invite you to participate in the 33rd Annual Meeting of the Southwest Conference on Asian Studies (SWCAS) which will be held at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas on October 8 and 9, 2004.  This is a small and friendly conference that not only gives academics the chance to meet others in their field who live in this region but also provides them with an opportunity to publish their papers in the SWCAS conference journal.  We also welcome individual papers and panel submissions from graduate and undergraduate students.  The deadline for submission of the Call for Papers and Panels form has been extended to August 15^th.   

          The weather in Huntsville in October is quite lovely.  The town is within easy driving distance of three major Texas cities.  Huntsville is approximately 70 miles north of downtown Houston and less than an hour’s drive from Bush Intercontinental Airport, a hub for Continental Airlines.  It is just over 150 miles northeast of Austin and under 200 miles south of Dallas.  It is a charming town with antique shops, museums, and fine dining at The Homestead.  Information on Huntsville area hotels is included in the useful links above.

          Below please find a Call for Papers and Panels form for individual papers and a membership registration form as well as the conference registration form.  The conference fee this year will be $35.00 and includes two meals.  Registration on‑site will be $40.00.  Membership dues are $15.00.  We do ask that participants join SWCAS.
