Interest Groups

Art and Music Tours Galore

If you have an interest in art and/or music, this group may be for you.  We will visit several art museums with guided tours.  This year we will also have an opportunity to attend several musical concerts.  The times and dates for these events will be determined by the group.  For further details please contact Jean Heins on 341-2476.

Book Review Group

We review five books during the year.  The group usually meets on the third Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.  The first selection is Places left unfinished at the time of creation by John Philip Santos on September 18, 2007.  Other meeting dates are: November 27, January 15, March 18 and May 20.  For further details please contact Sandra Kurtin on 830-980-2927.

Film and Fiction

Members meet for a movie and discussion of each novel on the Tuesdays listed below.  The meeting time is 10:00 a.m.; the location will be the home of Genie Calgaard.  All books selected are available in paperback.  Participants often lunch together after the movie.

October 16: “Catch Me If You Can” from the book by the same title by Frank W. Abagnale.  Broadway Books.

November 13: “Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont” from the book by the same title by Elizabeth Taylor.  Virago Modern Classics.

January 22: “Breach” Read  Spy, the account of Robert Hanssen by David Wise.  Random House paperback edition.

April 15: “The Devil Wears Prada” from the book by the same title by Lauren Weisberger.  Broadway Books.

Stitch in Time

For everyone who sews, knits, crochets, etc and for those interested in learning how.

Have a particular project you’ve been putting off for years, or a bunch of mending to do?  Always wanted to learn to sew or knit?  For sessions of stitching, chatting and a cookie or two, come join us in the Ruth Taylor Theater Building Costume Studio (RT 329).  The group will meet over the lunch hour, 11:00 – 12:30 on Thursday October 4, 18, November 1, 15 and December 6.  For further information please contact Jodi Karjala on 999-8588

Walking for Women

For those wishing to join together for exercise, friendship and fun!  Ladies walk around the beautiful nature area of campus at the corner of Hildebrand and Stadium Drive on the jogging track, enjoying the wildflowers and holding lively conversations.  There are two sessions every week (pets welcome):

                                    Tuesday lunchtimes:      11:30-12:30

                                    Thursday mornings:       7:30-8:30

Also, the Women’s Club will be entering as a group in the Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure to be held on March 29, 2009.  If you are motivated by a goal or would just like to support this worthwhile cause, please join us “Walking for Women.”
