Endowed Professorship in Neurophysics or Biophysics

Trinity University invites applications for the newly-established
Williams Endowed Professorship in Neurophysics or Biophysics,
to begin in August 2010. This position, along with 3 recently-filled positions
(2 senior and 1 junior) in Biology and Psychology, will enrich our undergraduate
major in Neuroscience, which has grown from 2 to 40 majors since its inception
4 years ago. The Neuroscience Program at Trinity was established with support
from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute

) and is interdepartmental with 6 faculty
from Biology, Psychology and Chemistry, and with this position, will now
include Physics. It is a vibrant program
with research interests ranging from behavioral psychology to reproductive
behavior to the neurochemistry of neurodegenerative disease.
Candidates must have (1) a Ph.D. in Physics, or Neuroscience
with a strong Physics component, (2) a current tenured position at the rank of
Associate Professor or higher, and (3) a distinguished record of teaching and
research. The successful candidate will teach both physics and
interdisciplinary neuroscience courses, strongly contribute to the degree
program in Neuroscience, and establish a program of forefront research that can
include participation by highly motivated and capable undergraduates. Candidates
in experimental, theoretical, or computational research are all encouraged to
apply.
The Department of Physics and Astronomy (http://www.trinity.edu/physics) has 6 faculty members, and attracts outstanding undergraduates into its program. Active research areas include astrophysics/cosmology, atmospheric physics, dynamics and pattern formation in soft matter and biological systems, nanomaterials/plasmonics, and gravitational-wave detection. The department’s majors are among the most talented in the university, and many attend top-ranked graduate schools.
