We offer the B.A., B.S., and minor in physics, and also a minor in astronomy; see The Minor in Astronomy for details. THERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT PAIRS OF INTRODUCTORY PHYSICS COURSES. EACH PAIR IS A TWO-SEMESTER SEQUENCE THAT MUST BE STARTED IN THE FALL. 1. Physics 1311 (Fall only) and Physics 1312 (Spring only) are designed for engineering science and physics majors. Calculus is used in class, and on homeworks and exams. 2. Physics 1309 (Fall only) and Physics 1310 (Spring only) are designed for all other students, including those majoring in biology, biochemistry, biochemistry & molecular biology, chemistry, and geosciences. Calculus is used in class, and on homeworks and exams. The differences in these two pairs will be that 1309 and 1310 will cover more material in less depth. Examples in 1309 and 1310 will be drawn from, e.g., geosciences, biology, and medicine. Physics 1309 or 1311 will serve as a prerequisite for either 1310 or 1312. The same laboratory sequence serves both of these pairs of lecture courses. Physics 1111 is normally taken concurrently with 1309 or 1311, but is not required. Physics 1112 is normally taken concurrently with 1310 or 1312, but is not required. Students with AP credit in Physics should talk with David Hough (dhough@trinity.edu) about credit for laboratory. |
