Our department graduated five majors who completed the B.A. or B.S. in Physics in May 2007: Erin Beitel, Eric Danielson, E.J. Fischer, Bobby McKinney, and Steven Vanderveer. Two students are in graduate school in physics, and one is working for "Teach for America". Congratulations to each and every one of you!

Dr. Jennifer Steele received a 2007 Trinity Summer Stipend in support of her work on nanogratings with potential applications as biomedical sensors.

Dr. Dennis Ugolini continues work on a major grant (~$90,000) awarded in Fall 2006 by the National Science Foundation to support his research efforts on behalf of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO).

Dr. Daniel Spiegel attended a national workshop on biophysics in Summer 2006, which helped him to prepare a new interdisciplinary BIOPHYSICS course that he taught in Spring 2007.

Dr. Gordon MacAlpine, Zilker Distinguished Professor and Chair, had a paper entitled "A Spectroscopic Study of Nuclear Processing and the Production of Anomalously Strong Lines in the Crab Nebula" published in The Astronomical Journal in early 2007. Trinity students Tait Ecklund, Ryan Lester, and Steven Vanderveer are co-authors.

Dr. David Hough, and his colleague Dr. Christian Aars at Angelo State, completed a Small Research Grant from the American Astronomical Society in June 2007. This grant supported their research in Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) of radio-loud quasars and active galaxies during the 2006-2007 academic year. Also, Dr. Hough was elected to the Executive Committee of the Texas Section of the American Physical Society in Spring 2006, and currently serves as Chair-Elect.
