Patrick Keating is an associate professor of Communication at Trinity University in San Antonio, TX. He teaches courses in film studies and video production and is the Chair of the interdisciplinary minor in Film Studies.

His areas of research and teaching include film history and style, Hollywood cinema, narrative theory, and the relationship between cinematography and other arts..

He is the author of Hollywood Lighting From the Silent Era to Film Noir, published by Columbia University Press, and the editor of Cinematography, published by Rutgers University Press.

Hollywood Lighting was selected by the Society of Cinema and Media Studies (SCMS) as the Best First Book in 2011. It was also a finalist for the Richard Wall Memorial Award presented by the Theatre Library Association (2010).
