1) Give the product(s) of the following reactions. If there are 2 or more products, indicate which is the major product.

Note that the cation that leads to 1 is more stable than the one that leads to 2 because of the benzyl cation stabilization. Note also that attack on both cations is backside, meaning from the bottom. In other words the ethoxy group and the hydroxyl group will be on opposite sides and no rotation will take place, preserving the trans relationship of the phenyl and propyl groups on the oxirane.

2)Provide the IUPAC name of the following compound:

(4S)-4-ethyl-6-hydoxy-6-methylhexanal

(Note that carbon 6 is achiral.)
