David Anderson is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where he currently serves as Associate Chair and Director of Graduate Studies. He received his Ph.D. degree in 1976 from the University of Chicago after completing his undergraduate degree at Iowa State University. He has been in the forefront of research in Commutative Algebra, publishing over 120 refereed papers. Many of these articles deal with factorization problems in commutative rings and integral domains, and he has directed several Ph. D. dissertations in this area. He has been very active in the University of Tennessee's Research Experiences for Undergraduates in Mathematics Program where he has co-authored numerous refereed papers with undergraduates. He has served as Section Lecturer for the Southeastern Section of the MAA during 2005-2006. His lectures during the workshop will focus on the algebraic and number theoretic aspects of non-unique factorization. |

Alfred Geroldinger is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Graz in Austria. He was born in Sigharting, Austria and completed his Masters degrees in both Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Vienna in 1984. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Graz in 1987 and his Habilitation in 1996. He is the author of over 55 research articles, the majority of which focus on problems involving non-unique factorizations. He is a co-author of the recent monograph Non-Unique Factorizations: Algebraic, Combinatorial and Analytic Theory which has been published by Chapman & Hall. Geroldinger's fundamental characterization of sets of lengths in certain Krull monoids paved the way for many authors to analyze more deeply the arithmetic constants associated with factorization theory. His lectures during the workshop will focus on the algebraic and combinatorial aspects of non-unique factorization. |

Ulrich Krause obtained his Ph.D. in Mathematics in 1967 from the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg and his Ph.D. in Economics in 1979 from the University of Hannover. Since 1973 he has been a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Bremen in Germany. He has been Visiting Professor at various Universities and has published books and articles in Mathematics as well as in Economics. His main research interests are in algebra/number theory, difference equations, positive discrete dynamical systems, social and economic dynamical modeling, theory of production, and decision theory/social choice. His pioneering work with the cross number has been essential to much of the recent development of the theory of non-unique factorizations. His lectures during the workshop will focus on the algebraic and geometric aspects of non-unique factorization. |
