Dear Black Student
Union,
I would like to say welcome to the
first-year students and welcome back to the returning members. The
last two years have been rebuilding years for the Black Student
Union, and I feel that we have accomplished our goal of positioning
ourselves to function as an efficient group on Trinity's campus.
Well, now that we are facing in the right direction, structure,
activity, and energy are what I believe is going to make the BSU
that "efficient group" we hope to become. It is structure that will
organize our endeavors, thus creating realistic actions that we can
carry out as a group. These can include hosting events, community
service, parties, and bringing in speakers to name a few. With a
more structured organization, our activities can increase.
Activities such as this have helped maintain a strong presence on
campus, and to associate the Black Student Union name with
productivity. In order to carry this out, enthusiasm is what is
going to be needed from each and every one of us. I do not want
involvement in the Black Student Union to feel like a chore, but
rather something positive that we all benefit from.
The overall goal of the 2003-2004 officers is
to not only attract more involvement and membership, but even more
important, to secure the continuance of the Black Student Union.
This year, one of goals is to become more involved in the San
Antonio community with the help or some neighboring universities. As
a junior, I would love to see Trinity's BSU continuing on
successfully. We are headed in the right direction, and I believe we
have what it takes our goals. I am looking forward to a great year
with all of you, and best wishes to everyone on the 2003 and 2004
academic year.
Sincerely,
Noelle Hicks

Student Union President 2003-2004
