PURPOSE

The mission of the BSU is to provide support and encouragement for its diverse members who share a common goal in the interests and concerns of the African and Black American communities. The BSU also functions to enhance and promote awareness and understanding of the history and culture of African and Black Americans, to develop life-long bonds and to help the members create an atmosphere in which they help each other to develop academically and socially within the Trinity University community.

OBJECTIVES

  • to act as a support group for all black students, black staff and black faculty of the Trinity University community

  • to strongly encourage recruitment and retention of black students, black faculty members and black staff administrative officials

  • to broaden knowledge of, and foster an appreciation for black history

  • to promote political involvement regarding matters of relevance to black people

  • to increase the levels of community, cultural, social, and academic diversity on the Trinity University campus

  • to form constructive coalitions with other organizations to achieve mutual objectives
