The Importance of Children and Youth
Within the past decade, sociology as a discipline has reevaluated the role
of children and youth as active social agents. At the same time, young
people are among the most vulnerable members of human societies. Since
this resurgence of interest is relatively recent, published scholarship is not
yet widely available. As a sociologist who studies social welfare and
social justice, I know that children and youth are often left politically and
socially voiceless. The purpose of this page is to provide cross-cultural,
historical, and sociological information and ideas about the younger people in our lives, and
to give voice to some of their concerns.

Huth Coates Library at Trinity University is (for our size) one of
the finest libraries in the world. As many quality libraries, it
has an impressive variety of items accessible via the WWW. While
some databases require an ID and password (available from librarians),
others resources are available online.
