Drama 2314 satisfies the course requirement within the Common Curriculum entitled: Understanding Aesthetic Experience and Artistic Creativity

Purpose of the Course:
Drama 2314 is designed to introduce the student to the complex and fascinating art of lighting design for the stage. To effectively design lighting one must possess a number of different cerebral and technical skills. The lectures, projects, papers, discussions, and classwork will strive to acquaint the student with these skills.

The class will discuss and explore the role of light in theatrical productions. Methods employed shall include practical "hands on" projects, critical analysis of lighting in productions, a theoretical lighting design, lecture, and discussion.

Projects:
There are numerous assignments of varying complexity designed to enhance an understanding of the art of lighting through critical thought, artistic interpretation, design organization, and technical comprehension. Projects not completed on the due date will not be accepted.

Lighting Critique:
Students are required to see both Trinity Department of Speech and Drama  Main Stage theatrical productions this semester. You will write a critique of the lighting for both productions. The critique should be an articulate reasoned response of your impressions of the lighting for the show.  Critique Guidelines

Crew Participation:
Students will gain 12 hours of practical experience hanging and focusing the lighting units for departmental productions.

 Crew days are as follows:

Lighting Calls:
Saturday  1/28/06 10:00 AM-6:00 PM
Saturday  2/04/06 4:00 PM- 10:00PM

ATTENDANCE POLICY
Successful theatrical productions require that a lot of people need to show up on time and do their job.

I hold this commitment in the highest regard.  If you show up to this class on time and do your job, you

should do well in the course.  If you choose to miss class:

An excess of 2 absences will result in the reduction of your final point total by 20 points

per absence.
