I am a firm believer that without speculation there is no good or original thought.

My lab’s research spans behavioral ecology and evolutionary biology, with an emphasis on animal communication and the adaptive significance of elaborate traits. Most of our research focuses on understanding the evolutionary processes that select for female ornamentation. We generally work on birds because they are wonderful model organisms, and we combine phylogenetic inference with field- and aviary-based behavioral research to study the selective forces underlying animal signals.
