I am a firm believer that without speculation there is no good or original thought.

My lab’s research spans behavioral ecology and evolutionary biology, with an emphasis on animal communication and the evolution of conflict resolution. Most of our research focuses on understanding the evolutionary processes (i.e., sexual selection and social selection) that select for female ornamentation and how female signals mediate competitive interactions. We generally work on birds because they are wonderful model organisms, and we combine field- and aviary-based behavioral research, with some phylogenetic inference, to study the selective forces underlying animal signals.
