Description
This course explores influential developments in theatre of the past two centuries, including romanticism, melodrama, realism, futurism, dada, expressionism, epic theatre, Broadway and West End musicals, American family drama, regional repertory theatres, international theatre festivals and late twentieth century experimental performance art. Using historical and critical writings, dramatic texts, photography and video resources, the course analyzes theatrical movements in their historical, aesthetic, and social contexts.
